Miami Beach Halloween Half Marathon

The Miami Beach Halloween Half Marathon is run on Miami Beach famous beach boardwalk. The themed race is available to all runners (costumes not mandatory) and features stunning views of the beach and Miami famed art deco backdrop. The race starts at Jungle Island and ends at South Pointe Park. Categories for this event include age groups, along with costume divisions. You choose which division you want to compete in! The after party will be hosted at Monty's in South Beach.

The Wolfsonian-FIU presents a new site-specific exhibit, Untitled ([construction of good)] by artist Bhakti Baxter in The Wolfsonian Bridge Tender House beginning November 29th. The installation will take place in the steel structure created in the Art Deco style outside of the museum entrance. The focus of the exhibit will be on the construction of good for mankind, focusing on how the meanings of things are perpetually shaped by their human and historical contexts.

Fort Lauderdale y Miami, FL . Octubre 18, 2013 – Con la finalidad de recaudar fondos para la investigación sobre el cáncer en la sangre y prestar apoyo a los pacientes y sus familias regresa a Miami y Fort Lauderdale el evento anual Light The Night® (Iluminemos la Noche) de la Sociedad de Lucha contra la Leucemia y el Linfoma (LLS, por sus siglas en inglés), organizado por la seccional del Sur de Florida y Puerto Rico. Las caminatas, que el año pasado rompieron récord de asistencia, se llevarán a cabo el sábado 9 de noviembre de 2013 en el Huizenga Plaza del centro de Fort Lauderdale y el sábado 16 de noviembre 2013 en el Bayfront Park del centro de Miami, ambas de 5 de la tarde a 8 de la noche.
Algunos datos del 2013 muestran que:

·         Aproximadamente cada 4 minutos una persona en los Estados Unidos es diagnosticada con un cáncer de la sangre[1].

·         Se prevé que un estimado total combinado de 149.990 personas en Estados Unidos sea diagnosticado con leucemia, linfoma o mieloma en 2013[2].

·         Se estima que los nuevos casos de leucemia, linfoma y mieloma representen 9% del estimado de 1.660.290 nuevos casos de cánceres diagnosticados en los EE.UU. en 2013[3].

·         Se estima que 1.129.813 personas en los EE.UU. están viviendo con, o están en remisión de, leucemia, linfoma o mieloma[4].

Las caminatas nocturnas Light The Night® son veladas llenas de inspiración. Durante este apacible paseo, los participantes llevan globos iluminados: de color blanco los sobrevivientes, rojo aquellos que brindan su apoyo y dorado en memoria de los seres queridos perdidos por causa del cáncer. Miles de caminantes, entre hombres, mujeres y niños, conforman una afectuosa y solidaria comunidad para llevar la luz al oscuro mundo del cáncer. Todas estas personas se unen a  de miembros de la organización y patrocinadores para participar en cada paseo.
Gracias al continuo apoyo de los contribuyentes y a los socios y patrocinadores, en el año fiscal 2012 la Sociedad de Leucemia y Linfoma ha sido capaz de:
·         Invertir $68 millones en investigación, que incluye la financiación de 111 nuevas becas a investigadores de instituciones académicas y de $ 14 millones en contratos a través del Programa de Aceleración del Tratamiento (TAP, Therapy Acceleration Program) de la  LLS que se dedica a movilizar el desarrollo inmediato de tratamientos para el cáncer en la sangre.
·         314 proyectos de investigación y de apoyo (20 asociaciones) en los Estados Unidos, Canadá y otros 7 países
·         Proporcionar asistencia financiera a pacientes con cánceres de la sangre
·         Patrocinar conferencias científicas a través de todo el país y en el extranjero
·         Elaborar materiales educativos y videos tanto para pacientes como para el personal médico
·         Gestionar cientos de grupos de apoyo familiar en todo el país

Cada año, en comunidades a lo largo y ancho de los Estados Unidos y Canadá , grupos de las familias , amigos , compañeros de trabajo, empresas locales y nacionales se reúnen para recaudar fondos y llevar ayuda y esperanza a todas las personas que luchan contra el cáncer en la sangre . Junto a ellas, millones de consumidores también brindan su ayuda a través de la donación en las diferentes tiendas que nos brindan su apoyo.

Sobre la LLS

La Sociedad de Lucha contra la Leucemia y el Linfoma (R), con sede nacional en White Plains, Nueva York, es la mayor organización voluntaria de salud en el mundo, dedicada al financiamiento de investigaciones del cáncer en la sangre, así como a la educación y servicios al paciente. Su misión es la cura de la leucemia, el linfoma, la enfermedad de Hodgins y el mieloma así como el mejoramiento de la calidad de vida de los pacientes y sus familiares. Los fondos para la investigación del cáncer en la sangre de la LLS  son destinados a salvar vidas en todo el mundo, proporcionar información gratuĺta y prestar servicios de apoyo. Desde su fundación en el año 1949, la LLS  ha invertido más de $875 millones para investigaciones específicamente destinadas a los cánceres en la sangre. Bajo una noche fresca y con una concurrencia de prensa, celebridades y amigos, la asociación America Developing Smiles celebró el lanzamiento de su campaña “Seeds of Hope Extravaganza”, un evento de recaudación de fondos que ayuda a niños en centros educativos del Sur de la Florida y de América Latina.

El escenario fue el acogedor Casabe 305 Bistro en Coral Way, y contó con la presencia del cantante venezolano Yordano, el presentador Nelson Bustamante, y un grupo de amigos que colaboran con esta bella la causa, y que se reunieron para anunciar el tan esperado evento “Seeds of Hope Extravaganza” que se llevará a cabo el próximo 21 de noviembre en el Rusty Pelican.
