The Miami Beach Cultural Affairs Program, with guidance from the Miami Beach Cultural Arts Council, develops, coordinates and promotes the performing and visual arts groups in Miami Beach. To date, Cultural Affairs has awarded over $9 million in grants to approximately 130 diverse not-for-profit arts groups, which contribute so richly to the artistic landscape of the City, proving that the Council plays an integral leadership role in supporting, promoting and advocating the unique and extensive scope of cultural offerings in Miami Beach.

Modern Mealsexamines how people in the U.S. began eating foods that were mass-produced in the first half of the 20th century. Images and artifacts from The Wolfsonian's collection illustrate the movement of food from the field, to the factory, supermarket, and kitchen table, in order to explore how modern technology, design, and business practices created new meanings for food and eating in this era. Exhibition coninues through August 18, 2013.
Women in Motion: Fitness, Sport, and the Female Figure
Opens May 17, 2013

Women in Motiondisplays images of physically active women produced by governments, fitness advocates, advertisers, and artists in Europe and the United States during the first half of the twentieth century. Both exhibitions examine aspects of everyday culture in the early 20th century that are still of great concern today, from the methods through which our foods are produced, to equal access to athletic opportunities for women.  Exhibition continues through August 18, 2013.

On Saturday morning, March 18, 1922 - two years after American women received the right to vote - Judith Kaplan, daughter of Rabbi Mordecai M. Kaplan, became the first American girl to mark her bat mitzvah during a public worship service. In the decades that followed, many other girls and women became the "first" in their communities, helping to reshape American Judaism.

The Wolfsonian-FIU presents a new site-specific exhibit, Untitled ([construction of good)] by artist Bhakti Baxter in The Wolfsonian Bridge Tender House beginning November 29th. The installation will take place in the steel structure created in the Art Deco style outside of the museum entrance. The focus of the exhibit will be on the construction of good for mankind, focusing on how the meanings of things are perpetually shaped by their human and historical contexts.

Preparativos Para la Temporada de Huracanes  

Como comienza otra temporada de huracanes el primero de junio, Miami Beach y funcionarios del condado de Miami-Dade están tomando medidas de precaución para mantener seguro a los residentes de Miami Beach. Los funcionarios han organizando seminarios de preparación este Mayo en las comunidades residenciales de ancianos.

Esto ha sido posible a través de la Oficina de Servicios a la Comunidad de Miami Beach. La Oficina de Manejo de Emergencias del Condado de Miami-Dade será la sede de las dos reuniones públicas para recordarle a los residentes de los procedimientos de evacuación y la importancia de la prepararse para un huracán lo más pronto posible:

Alerta de Tránsito 
 Permite más tiempo extra para llegar a su destino ahora que el departamento de transporte de la Florida (FDOT) ha comenzado proyectos para mejorar Alton Road. Empezando este mes, Alton Road se convertirá a una dirección, hacia el sur, desde la calle 17 hasta la avenida Michigan.

En junio, FDOT también empezara con un proyecto para mejorar la avenida Collins entre la calle 5 y Lincoln Road. Se puede esperar cierres y cambios de vías.

Campamentos de Verano

Divertidas aventuras les espera en Parques y Recreo de Miami Beach. Estaremos ofreciendo programas supervisados y estructurados de Campamentos de Verano para niños y adolescentes entre los grados K-12. Nuestros campamentos empiezan el 10 de junio y duran hasta el 2 de agosto. Se llevan a cabo de lunes a viernes de 9 a.m. a 5 p.m. durante las ocho semanas.

Algunas de las divertidas actividades incluyen juegos, deportes, artes manuales, paseos, eventos especiales, patinaje sobre hielo, torneos, natación y más. La localidad de los campamentos varía según las edades. El costo es de $525 para residentes de Miami Beach ($300 para hermanos) y $775 para los que no son residentes. El precio incluye los $75 del costo de actividades. Costo reducido o becas son disponibles para residentes de Miami Beach que califiquen.

Además de ser un ambiente natural para las plantas e insectos nativos y  un área de alimentación para las aves migratorias, las dunas saludables ofrecen una protección significativa de los huracanes y las tormentas como se encuentran en tierras altas.

Por eso funcionarios de la ciudad han organizado un taller gratis sobre la historia de las dunas en nuestras playas para ayudar a ciudadanos entender su valor, propósito y la razón que es necesario protegerlas. Este taller educativo que se tomó a cabo el miércoles, 19 de junio, entre las 6 y 8 p.m. en la sala de Ayuntamientos en el tercer piso de la Ciudad.

Como parte de este proyecto financiado con donaciones, la ciudad y voluntarios también llevaron a cabo un evento para restaurar las dunas y eliminar vegetación que no es nativa. El evento será el Sábado, 1 de junio, desde las 9 a.m. hasta las 12 p.m. El registro de voluntarios comienza a las 8:30 a.m. en Pancoast Park, oeste de las dunas y cerca de la calle 36.

Consejo de Crédito Gratuito Para Su Educación Financiera

La Oficina de Servicios a la Comunidad de Miami Beach se ha asociado con Clearpoint Credit Counseling para ofrecer talleres de educación financiera gratuita para los residentes el 12 de junio, 29 de agosto, y 13 de noviembre.

Los talleres bilingües serán sobre temas como el presupuesto, los fundamentos de bancarias, el uso racional del crédito, la compra de una casa, la estabilidad financiera de la familia, cómo abrir un pequeño negocio y cómo el crédito funciona en su pequeña empresa.
