Screen shot of Florida State Parks Pocket Ranger® Mobile App | Planning a trip to a state park or trail? Now, smartphone users can download the Florida State Park app for on-the-go information.
The Florida Park Service is pleased to partner with ParksByNature Network™ and PocketRanger.com to provide visitors and Florida state park enthusiasts with a FREE smartphone app, available to download today.
In honor of the new app, Florida’s state parks will offer free entry* to state parks to visitors on Monday, Feb. 18 to those who show the app downloaded on their mobile device at the ranger station. Visitors are encouraged to download the app this week and plan a visit to their favorite state park or a state park they just learned about through the app.
This interactive guide gives users access to all state parks and trails with detailed information, amenities, facility maps and directions. Plan that perfect outdoor trip by searching for a park by GPS location or activity to find nearby locations to enjoy hiking, camping, boating, birding and more. Once you’re there, advanced GPS and GIS mapping technology allows you to track and record trails, mark waypoints and locate your friends within the parks. You can even cache GPS maps in advance to ensure that navigation remains possible in the event of lost mobile reception.
The app provides plenty of other features to maximize outdoor adventure:
- Educational info, amenities, maps & directions.
- Real-time Calendar of Events.
- News, advisories and weather alerts.
- Social networking and photo sharing.
- Potentially life-saving Alert feature.
- Advanced GPS mapping features.
- Record trail distance and time elapsed.
- Recall, post or share saved data.
- Friend Finder.
- Built-in compass.
The Florida State Parks Pocket Ranger® is available now on iTunes, Android Market and PocketRanger.com. A mobile website is also available. PocketRanger.com provides a step-by-step tutorial for using the app.
*Skyway Fishing Pier State Park in St. Petersburg is not included in this special offer. To receive free entry, please show the ranger station or staff at the park entrance booth the app downloaded on your mobile device. Mobile App Free Entry offer is available on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013 only. |
