Now, five years later, pain pill abuse is down, but heroin use has soared. Los sitios de comparación en línea pueden ser excelentes para analizar los productos que deseas probar o comprar. ¿Pero esos comentarios y calificaciones son objetivos, precisos e imparciales? Esa es una pregunta que hay que hacerse siempre, y el motivo es que algunos comentarios y calificaciones sobre productos que se publican en internet podrían estar influenciados por pagos del anunciante.

Según la FTC, eso es exactamente lo que hizo una compañía llamada LendEDU y sus operadores. La compañía promocionó el sitio web lendedu.com como un recurso en el cual la gente podría comparar productos financieros confidencialmente – incluidos préstamos estudiantiles privados – como una ayuda para ahorrar tiempo y dinero. LendEDU tenía tablas de posiciones, clasificaciones, calificaciones con estrellas y comentarios de aquellas que, según dijo, eran las mejores compañías que ofrecían productos financieros. La compañía dijo que esta información era objetiva, precisa e imparcial. Pero según la FTC, las clasificaciones y calificaciones de LendEDU se basaban en el pago de esas compañías.

La FTC también dice que LendEDU publicó falsos comentarios de consumidores en su propio sitio web. Cuando la FTC observó más detenidamente, descubrió que casi todos los comentarios positivos de los clientes de lendedu.com habían sido escritos por los empleados, amigos, familiares y asociados de LendEDU.

De acuerdo a los términos del acuerdo de la FTC, LendEDU debe dejar de efectuar declaraciones equívocas y debe informarle a la gente si recibe dinero para promocionar productos. LendEDU también revelará cualquier relación que pudiera afectar el endoso de un producto.

• Considera la fuente de las opiniones y comentarios antes de decidir si comprar o no. Las opiniones de expertos y organizaciones confiables e imparciales son más valiosas que la opinión de un solo cliente o que un comentario que aparece en un sitio web del que nunca escuchaste hablar.

• Compara comentarios publicados en internet de más de una fuente. Puedes tener una mejor idea de una compañía, producto o servicio si lees opiniones en varios sitios web, incluidos los sitios de comparación de compras o de tiendas minoristas. También revisa sitios confiables que se especialicen en revisar productos con opiniones y comparaciones de expertos.
