Se están enviando cheques de reembolso por un valor total aproximado de $147 millones de dólares a alrededor de 33,000 personas que le mandaron dinero a estafadores a través de transferencias efectuadas en Western Union. Los $147 millones de dólares son una parte del dinero que pagó Western Union cuando alcanzó acuerdos resolutorios con la FTC y el Departamento de Justicia y aceptó crear un sólido programa antifraude. En su acuerdo con el Departamento de Justicia, Western Union también admitió la responsabilidad de infracciones penales.

Dr. Ryan C. W. Hall graduated Phi Beta Kappa with honors with a double major in biology and psychology from Johns Hopkins University. He completed his medical training at Georgetown University School of Medicine and did an internal medicine internship at Johns Hopkins University. He completed his psychiatric residency in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Johns Hopkins and a forensic psychiatry fellowship at the Case Western Reserve School of Medicine.

Puede ser difícil detectar las estafas de phishing. Por ejemplo, hemos tenido noticias de una de estas estafas en la que la gente recibe un mensaje de texto que dice que tiene un paquete en espera y que tiene que hacer clic en un enlace para obtener más información. Parece algo bastante inocente, ¿cierto? Lamentablemente, no lo es.

Los mensajes son enviados por estafadores. En algunos casos, están dirigidos a estudiantes universitarios. En esa versión, los estafadores envían mensajes de texto a estudiantes que regresan a clase diciéndoles que hay un paquete esperándolos — a veces dicen que el paquete está en espera desde la última primavera, cuando muchos estudiantes debieron dejar la residencia universitaria y volver rápidamente a casa.
Cualquiera sea el texto del mensaje, la regla es siempre la misma: Si recibes un mensaje de texto inesperado sobre un paquete, no hagas clic en ningún enlace. Si piensas que el mensaje puede ser legítimo, comunícate con la compañía usando un sitio web o un número de teléfono que te conste que es real. Pero no uses la información del mensaje de texto.
¿Por qué te conviene evitar hacer clic en el enlace? Después de hacer clic, te pueden engañar para que des información personal — y con esos datos los estafadores te pueden robar contraseñas, números de cuenta o de Seguro Social. Al hacer clic en estos enlaces también podrías permitir que los estafadores te descarguen programas maliciosos en tu dispositivo.

Weston Rotary Run: Registration is Open for Virtual Race
The Rotary Club of Weston, the City of Weston and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital is gearing up for the 23rd Annual Rotary Run for Tomorrow and Fitness & Health Festival in December. While all run events (5K, 10K, Half Marathon, Half Marathon Relay, and the Mayor’s Get Fit Challenge) will be held virtually, the Health & Fitness Festival will take place at locations throughout the City on December 6. More details to follow.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all runners will participate in the races at a location of their choice and complete their run any time between December 5 through 13.
