Town Center District History

Town Center North Overlay Scope

In December 2019, the City Commission created the Town Center North Overlay through a Comprehensive Plan amendment. The Town Center North Overlay boundary consists of the westbound lanes of Sunny Isles Boulevard north to 172 Street, spanning east to Collins Avenue and west to the Intracoastal Waterway. We are now creating development guidelines for this newly formed area and this is your opportunity to share your input.

Timeline

The Town Center North re-envisioning process is currently underway. The first part of the process is key stakeholder interviews with elected officials, residents, property owners, and business owners. These will be conducted during January and February 2020. The next step is an Interactive Listening Session on March 10, where residents will be able to share input on what their vision is for the Town Center North Overlay. Upon completion, presentations will be available on our webpage at sibfl.net/towncenternorth and you will have the ability to submit additional comments or suggestions. Once all public engagement data has been collected, Calvin, Giordano & Associates will present their findings and recommendations for future development guidelines in the Town Center North Overlay to the City Commission during a public meeting.

Miami-Dade County Beach Corridor Rapid Transit Project
Friday, January 24, 2020
Miami-Dade County's Beach Corridor Rapid Transit study is evaluating how to connect Miami and Miami Beach with premium transit. View the latest project fact sheet with more information on the four modes of transportation being evaluated.

At this time, pursuant to the federal process, Miami-Dade County is prepared to recommend a technology and route (a Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA)) to the Miami-Dade Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) Governing Board at the January 30, 2020 TPO meeting. If approved by the TPO, the LPA will be advanced and refined in the next phase of transit project planning called Preliminary Engineering.

The County released the Beach Corridor Rapid Transit PD&E Study First Draft Report prepared by Parsons Corporation on January 23, 2020. This report provides the technical data used by Miami-Dade County to formulate a recommendation for an LPA. Please click here to review the draft report.

In summary, the draft report recommends the following:

  • Automated People Mover (APM) for the Miami extension from the existing School Board Metromover station to Design District
  • Elevated rubber tire vehicle (APM or Monorail) for the Trunkline (from a proposed Herald Plaza station/existing Museum Park Metromover station to Washington Avenue and 5 Street)
  • Bus/Trolley on dedicated lanes for the Miami Beach extension from Washington Avenue and 5 Street to the Miami Beach Convention Center (along Washington Avenue)

Below is a map of the County's recommended alternative.

Statement from SBA Administrator Jovita Carranza

It is my honor and privilege to return to the SBA as the Agency’s 26th Administrator. I’m thrilled to have been selected by President Trump, and I look forward to serving America’s entrepreneurs.
With historically low unemployment and soaring small business optimism, this is such an exciting time for small business owners in America, and I’m determined to leverage the power of the SBA to help bring even more prosperity to America’s small businesses.
Our nation’s entrepreneurs are innovators, risk-takers, and the catalyst for employment opportunities within their communities. In particular, I look forward to helping elevate female entrepreneurs and our military veterans, expanding access to SBA resources among entrepreneurs in disadvantaged communities, and continuing to prioritize disaster relief.
As the voice for America’s 30 million small businesses, I’m eager to advocate on your behalf as a member of the President’s Cabinet.

Warm regards,
Administrator Jovita Carranza
