Spring Break Season Has Begun 

Miami Beach will once again be welcoming large numbers of visitors for spring break this year. In preparation, the city has been planning diligently to implement a comprehensive and coordinated plan to ensure visitors are able to enjoy the beaches, while maintaining safety and resident quality of life.
This year, based on spring break schedules, March 3 through April 16 has been identified as a high impact period for Miami Beach. Respect the scene and know the rules:
  • No one likes litter. Stash your trash.
  • Alcoholic drinks stay inside. It's the law.
  • Tent, tables and similar structures not permitted.
  • Turn down the volume. Keep noise to a minimum.
  • Keep glass containers and Styrofoam off the beach.
  • Coolers/Inflatable devices are not permitted.

Traffic Impact: Michelob Ultra 13.1 Marathon 

The 2017 Michelob Ultra 13.1 Miami Beach Marathon will take place on Sunday, March 5, 2017.  The race will begin at 6:15 AM at Ocean Drive and 12 Street.

Runners then proceed north to go out over the eastbound lanes of the Julia Tuttle Causeway clearing this section by 8:15 AM.  As participants clear sections of the city, both Miami Beach PD and Miami PD will be reopening roads.
The race is expected to end by 10 AM.  Please expect short delays between 6 AM and 10 AM race day morning. Click here to view more information >
Tonight! Friday Night Live

Trek down to Normandy Fountain in North Beach for a free, live musical entertainment tonight and every first Friday of each month. Tonight's performance is Luis Bofill.
Gather around  the fountain with friends, order food and beverages from neighborhood businesses and dance the night away under the stars.
Live entertainment begins at 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

Get Connected With MB
It can often be a daunting task to keep track of city issues, projects or proposed ordinances throughout the life-cycle of the municipal process.  In order to ensure Miami Beach residents are as up-to-date on the issues that matter most to them, the city has launched MB Resident Connect.
MB Resident Connect is an electronic alert system that all allows residents and interested stakeholders to set up keywords of interest and receive an alert when their topic is published on an agenda.  This can include items placed on a Miami Beach City Commission meeting, committee meeting or any other public meeting. Nurturing Parenting Classes
Beginning Wednesday, March 8 through Wednesday, May 31, the Office of Community Services will be offering free Nurturing Parenting Classes for parents with adolescents ages 12-18 years old.

Classes will be held at the North Shore Park Youth Center, located at 501 72 Street.

Dance Night Under the Stars  

Enjoy an evening of samba under the stars, kicking off an exciting samba series on Thursday, March 9 with Dance Night Under the Stars at the North Beach Bandshell.

8 p.m. Live band: Batuke Samba Funk
 
Batuke Samba Funk has quickly become one of South Florida's favorite party bands in the last few years. The group mixes rhythms from Brazilian samba and with classic 70s American funk.  The goal of Batuke is to "brazilianize" American sounds, and "Americanize" Brazilian sounds in a perfectly balanced fusion. The band is formed by several of Miami's top Brazilian musicians including bassist and composer Diogo Brown, guitarist Cezar Santana and singer Mari Mac. They have performed with top Brazilian artists like Vanessa da Mata, and also James Brown's legendary sax player Pee Wee Ellis. Their irresistible groove-fueled sound is influenced by top Brazilian and US funk and artists, including Jorge Ben Jor, Earth, Wind & Fire, Tim Maia and Seu Jorge, among others.

Una novedad de la Semana Nacional de Protección del Consumidor de 2017 es que el martes 7 de marzo a las 2:30 pm hora del este, la FTC participará en un chat en vivo en Facebook con USA.gov.
Durante el chat en vivo en Facebook hablaremos sobre 10 cosas que puedes hacer para evitar el fraude, y mostraremos algunos de los materiales educativos gratuitos para consumidores que puedes ordenar para ti, tus amigos y familiares y para tu comunidad. Sintoniza el chat el martes próximo y si tienes alguna pregunta, hazla.
El 8 de marzo de 2017 a partir de las 4:30 pm hora del este, el personal de la FTC también participará en un chat en Twitter junto con el Departamento de Protección del Consumidor de Connecticut (@CTDCP) para responder preguntas de consumidores. El personal responderá preguntas sobre endeudamiento, robo de identidad, seguridad en línea y otros temas relacionados con la protección del consumidor. Cuando escuchas sobre esos casos de personas a las que estafan con transferencias de dinero, ¿te has preguntado quién cobra el dinero del otro lado?
En el caso de la gente que fue estafada por ciertos centros de llamadas de la India, la respuesta es los empleados de PHLG Enterprises.
La FTC anunció hoy una demanda contra PHLG Enterprises y su propietario. La FTC dice que la compañía ayudó a cobrar el dinero que la gente envió en respuesta a las estafas de los centros de llamadas. Esas estafas incluían estafas de subsidios del gobierno, estafas de impuestos del IRS y estafas de préstamos con cargo adelantado. Los telemercaderes que estaban detrás de las llamadas a menudo fingían estar afiliados con agencias del gobierno de EE.UU. Le dijeron a la gente que le debían dinero al IRS, o que podían recibir un subsidio gratis del gobierno después de pagar un cargo.
Después de que los telemercaderes con sede en la India engañaban a la gente, los “corredores” que trabajan para PHLG retiraban el dinero rápidamente en diversos locales de Western Union o MoneyGram del estado de Florida. Para evitar que los atraparan, usaron nombres inventados, fueron a varias tiendas en distintas ciudades todos los días para hacer transacciones por sumas cercanas a los montos máximos permitidos y les mintieron a los empleados de las tiendas para asegurarse de poder retirar el dinero.
Cuando la gente se dio cuenta de la estafa, el dinero ya había desaparecido, y no había manera de recuperarlo. Según la demanda de la FTC, solo entre julio de 2015 y febrero de 2016, los “corredores” de PHLG cobraron más de $1,5 millones de dólares de aproximadamente 3,000 personas.
